WHO WE ARE
I am Jessica Saukkonen, a contract shepherd and very keen trial handler here in the North East of England.
I have had the pleasure to work all over UK since 2016, from Scotland to South Wales, learning about different styles of farming and the challenges different areas and terrains with their own native sheep breeds bring. This helps me to have a good understanding what farmers realistically need from their dogs depending where they are located and what type of livestock they work.
I have a good team of confident and cool headed work dogs whom I often use to show example and support the green dogs when building confidence in the pens, etc. My dogs are often helping with lessons and clinic days controlling the sheep - and can also be trusted to run with new handlers to help the people understand and feel how it all works.
We enjoy doing sheepdog demonstrations in shows through the summer season and we can be spotted in sheepdog trials through out the year, including the annual English National. By winning Open trials regularly and doing a fair bit of judging I have a good understanding what is needed also from trial dogs and their handlers,
you might have even spotted me and Gannon representing England in the 2022 One Man And His Dog TV Show coming second.
WHAT WE OFFER
RESIDENTIAL SHEEPDOG TRAINING
Your dog/s will stay with us in extra clean kennels and be trained on sheep every day as well as enjoy social time. We can either agree on a lenght of period, or to train to a certain level or a specific skill, or can just see how the dog is progressing and make decisions week
by week.
LESSONS
Are you a total beginner stepping in to the world of sheepdogs, or have you got a wild youngster you struggle to control, bought a trained sheepdog and need help understanding it, or you might
want to fine-tune both your and the dog's skills for trialing..?
What ever the problem, we are here to help you!
Our days are flexible so just give us a shout and we can have a chat
CLINIC DAYS
Just like our lessons, our fun and very encouraging clinics / training days suite everyone on any level, from complete beginners to advanced, every dog will be focused on as an individual and will have multiple sessions on sheep.
A great opportunity to watch other people run their dogs and learn from different type dogs, a sure way to enter the sheepdog community and create friendships with like-minded people.
SHOWS / SHEEPDOG DEMONSTRATIONS
We offer Sheepdog Demonstrations that can be tailored to suite the Show or event. We have a selection of sheepdogs that are in different stages of training, from seasoned trial winners to just resently started pups - and everything in between, making it easy for the public to see the difference in the dogs' skills while we demonstrate how they are trained. We are happy to stay through the whole event to chat with the public and our friendly dogs enjoy being petted and posing for selfies.
We can bring our own sheep or work the sheep the event organises.
